Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community that is located in the West Island, which is part of the Montreal island. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is an extensive region that runs from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly known as the place where she was born. But she only stayed there for a short duration. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to become a dancer. Then, a growth increase caused her to surpass every dance partner she had. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. After I surpassed my male counterparts and gave up, I decided to give up. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school which led her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the annual school production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. This led to her being awarded a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on small and big screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the character as Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 which was viewed only on occasion.
